High

“Infuse your life with action. Don’t wait for it to happen. Make it happen. Make your own future. Make your own hope. Make your own love. And whatever your beliefs, honor your creator, not by passively waiting for grace to come down from upon high, but by doing what you can to make grace happen… yourself, right now, right down here on Earth.”~B Whitford

From high atop Arcosanti, the performance group Flam Chen starts the show. They epitomize graceful AND on 10′ stilts.

I love shooting these types of performances, they are just so full of over the top life. Music, dance, athletic moves and well, grace all combined into a visual party. And I am not just talking about physical grace. I would venture to say that the performers have found their own personal grace in some ways, finding their calling and passion in life.

The shows tend to be hard for me to shoot with difficult light, too many distractions, a lot of movement in usually dark conditions. This image I liked because of the wind in the performer’s ribbons, her expression and the fact that with the lines of the building, it reminded me of a court jester atop a castle.  It’s kind of an escapist, fun, fantasy image.
